Big BÂs ÂMisquote Earns Him Backlash From WomenÂs Group
- IndiaGlitz, [Tuesday,October 31 2006]
IndiaGlitz reported in its story ÂI want to be a granddad soon, says Big B as to how a national news channel presented a story totally out of context. While merely replying to lyricist SameerÂs statement that he would want his son to write lyrics for AbhishekÂs son one day, Mr Bachchan had stated in a lighter vein that he wants to rush home so that he can ask Abhishek to give birth to a son soon so that SameerÂs son can write lyrics for him. The news channel continuously reported Big BÂs statement and totally ignored SameerÂs comment.
Yesterday I was literally agitated to see another story on the same news channel as to how a womenÂs group in Banaras had taken umbrage to BachchanÂs statement as sexist. They chanted slogans against him proclaiming that how can the superstar be favorable to having a grandson and not a granddaughter. I could also see a smile on few of the womenÂs faces as they raised slogans against Big B. It was obvious they were enjoying the attention showered on them by the news channel.
I must say Amitabh Bachchan is very tolerant of media and is very down to earth while interacting with them. I have personally seen him being very patient, civil and humorous with photographers and over zealous reporters during the events in Mumbai. It is really hitting below the belt by presenting him in such a disgraceful manner. I think Aamir Khan is right when he lambasted the media for being irresponsible, sensational and tabloidisation of news channels. Time to think guys? The day is not far when one of these channels will be battling a heavy duty suit case .
